Layer Twist
Solve a scrambled 3×3 cube. Timer and move counter start on your first twist. Best time saves in this browser.
About Layer Twist
Layer Twist is a classic 3x3 color cube rendered in full 3D right in your browser — grab any face and twist.
Drag a colored face to turn that layer, or drag empty space to orbit the camera and see every side. Scroll, or pinch on mobile, to zoom in and out.
Every cube starts freshly scrambled. A timer and move counter kick in the moment you make your first twist, and your best solve time is saved right in your browser so you can try to beat it.
Hit Scramble any time for a brand-new mix-up and start again.
Layer Twist is a 3x3 cube you can orbit in 3D. Drag a face to turn that layer; drag empty space to spin the camera. Scroll or pinch to zoom. Every scramble is new.
A timer and move counter start on your first twist. Best time saves in the browser. Scramble gives you another mix when you want a fresh start, not a continue from a mess.
What you do in Layer Twist
Objective. Solve a scrambled 3×3 cube. Timer and move counter start on your first twist. Best time saves in this browser.
Drag a colored face to turn that layer. Drag empty space to orbit the camera. Scroll or pinch to zoom. Scramble for a new mix.
Every cube starts scrambled. Mid-solve scramble throws the clock away. Solve method is yours — daisy, CFOP, or face-first.
How to play Layer Twist
Inspect all six sides before you turn anything. Then solve as you would a real cube: daisy or white cross, corners, middle layer, then last layer — or any method you already know.
If the camera hides a face, orbit in empty space instead of guessing a turn. Wrong layers add moves and time.
On mobile, pinch to zoom when a sticker is hard to read. The puzzle is the cube, not the UI.
Controls
Drag a cube face to twist that layer; drag empty space to rotate the camera. Scroll/pinch to zoom. Tap Scramble for a new mix-up.
Mouse drag plus scroll zoom. More precise for last-layer turns.
On a phone or tablet: Face-drag to twist, empty-space drag to orbit, pinch to zoom.
What makes Layer Twist different
- Full 3D cube, not a 2D net
- Camera orbit is a separate gesture from a face turn
- Clock starts on first twist — no warm-up on the timer
Tips
- Do not start the timer with random twists “to see.” Your first move is already on the clock.
- Hold the cube orientation in your head: pick a white-down or white-up convention and keep it.
- If you are new to cubes, solve one face completely, then learn how to move pieces without destroying that face.
- Use Scramble after a solve, not mid-solve, unless you are practicing a single algorithm.
Strategy
- Orbit the camera in empty space; dragging a face twists that layer. Mixing the two gestures mis-turns.
- The timer starts on the first twist. A mid-solve scramble throws the clock away.
- Finish one face, then edges. Random twisting after the last layer is how times explode.
